“Tempo”

Join us at the Gallery for a celebratory closing reception with special tribute to the one-year anniversary of Katonah Connect Magazine’s Music Issue.
Art and music come together at “Tempo,” an exhibition at Chroma Fine Art Gallery from September 19 – October 15, featuring the work of Andy Hammerstein and Julie Rosenberg. Gallery owner Rita Baunok paired the two local artists based on their simpatico creative output and personalities. “Andy and Julie create work that explore time, rhythm, and sound. They both grew up with strong influences of art and music.”
Andy Hammerstein, a descendent of Rogers & Hammerstein, grew up going to Broadway shows. His “Tempo Clash” series on display is inspired by his love of piano (which he plays daily before painting), and his special interest in odd tempos. He aims to visually register offbeat rhythms via spatial units defined by colors and lines. His translation of unusual tempos – which would sound cacophonous to the ear – resonate as beautiful and balanced to the eye.
Julie Rosenberg, daughter of artist Dyan Rosenberg, first picked up a guitar at age nine. Upon graduating from Itaca College in 1987, she painted her first two guitars. Left in storage as she pursued a career in physical therapy, Rosenberg was inspired to pick up where she left off when she re-discovered them 30 years later. She now turns electric guitars with unfinished wood bodies and necks into fully customized works of art that complete her vision of how the guitar should look, sound, and feel. Visitors to “Tempo” can look forward to seeing seven large canvases by Hammerstein and about twelve customized guitars by Rosenberg. Chroma Fine Art Gallery will also host several intimate concerts featuring Julie Rosenberg’s band Reservoir Road (and/or a variety of other special musical guests). The exhibition’s opening reception, which coincides with the Katonah Art Walk on September 23 from 4-8pm, promises to be a colorful and lively event!
