Chevaux Sauvage #8

Artist Statement:
These sculptures, “Chevaux Sauvages”, were, after a long hiatus of almost 30 years, created upon the request of my gallerist beginning in 2015. The assemblages are made from automobile, tool and construction elements and are proportioned upon a 15 hand horse. The gestures of each head are different, two are calm while one is agitated. #8 is very abstract, #9 is more lifelike and #10 has the intensity of a working mechanical watch. Each of the sculpture’s elements are heated with an acetylene torch, hammered, shaped and stick welded. After brushing the surface with an electric wire wheel, the surface is coated with Val oil.
