Artist Statement:
Detroit Ça Va is the first in the exploration of my hometown’s, (Detroit, Michigan), troubled auto industry. A skeleton horse gallops over a wheeled drill press machine with a broken spoke. The horse represents horsepower while the name harkens back to the city’s French history. Motion is implied by the dynamic position of horse and wheel on the industrial base. The steel elements of the sculpture are heated with an acetylene torch, hammered, shaped and stick welded. After brushing the surface with an electric wire wheel, the surface is coated with an oil finish.
