Artist Statement – “The Wonder Years”

Growing up in the suburbs of Long Island during the 60’s was a roller coaster ride for my generation. As a young songwriter / musician and Graffiti Pop artist I grew up in the decade of love vs hate , sadly much like today. The music and art scene was a reflection of the political madness we were watching in horror on the nightly news. The music of the “British Invasion” lead by The Beatles was life changing for so many of us, as Bob Dylan was singing our lives with his words and Woodstock would close out the 60’s with a festival of love.

As the decades progressed Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Basquiat, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, etc… were on the cutting edge of POP ART and would be the saving grace of a generation. These artists would change the way we look at Campbell Soup cans, bright neon colors, comics and Graffiti / Street art.

Eventhough the world was in chaos we still managed to see the beauty in the amazing creativity of these artists and musicians. Through all the political turmoil, the war in Vietnam and the back to back assassinations of some of the greatest men of our time, my generation broke on through to the other side because of the inspiring art and music that guided our innocent souls.

I am inspired by those turbulent times they called “The Wonder Years”, I feel blessed I cut my teeth during those decades. Through my own brand of Graffiti Pop ART, I am reflecting on a time that’s gone by, the good, the bad and the ugly.
