Artist Statement

My painting is primarily concerned with color. I love exploring the magic of simultaneous contrast, or the way colors interact, and the vagaries of color mixing. When I begin a painting, I may have an idea but most often, I just start painting. I sometimes add subtle interest with different types of brushstrokes or sprays of water.
I agree with Whistler’s insistence on “art for art’s sake”; that a work should be judged on its merits regardless of subject matter. Abstraction appeals to me for this reason. I want the viewer to see what is important to them and walk away pleased that they encountered my work.
