Flowers – Artist Statement
Flowers have long been the subject of art. However, they are seldom the matter that is used to make the art. Flowers have many uses, culinary, like the dandelion or medicinal like the forsythia, or simply for the enjoyment of their scent and form, like Columbine. In this series, flowers are employed for their light sensitive quality and used to make a photographic image.
As flowers wither and fade away so too will the Anthotypes made from the flower’s emulsion if continuously exposed to light. They are as delicate as the flowers that made them, therefore each Anthotype is scanned and printed using archival ink.
The title of each work refers to the plant that made the design first and the flower that was used to make the emulsion.
