The Herd

Artist Statement:
I took this picture years ago while traveling through Michigan. They were in this little backyard area, the whole property looked abandoned and looked like no one had been there in a long time. They were so friendly and loved hamming it up in front of the camera. Of course, the horse rescue side of me wanted to make sure they had what they needed to survive, so I checked on their water and food situation, it looked like someone had been taking care of that. So, with a sigh of relief, I took as many pictures as I could of them, gave them lots and lots of scratches and what peppermints I had.

This original image was shot on medium format film in color. It truly amazes me how much this photo has transformed into something I can create a new art piece with! While I don’t know their real names, I have always called them “The Herd”. I am not sure what has happened to these beauties since that day I found them, but I am so grateful for the opportunity to have met and photographed them so their memory can live on through art.
