Robert Ayers
Robert Ayers has worked as a professional artist his entire adult life. He was born in the UK, first worked in this country in 1979, immigrated in 2003, and became a citizen in 2019. He studied Fine Art at the University of Leeds and was awarded a First Class Honors degree. He was Head of the School of Art History at De Montfort University, Head of the School of Visual and Performing Arts, Professor of the Contemporary Arts, and Artistic Director of Nottingham Trent University.
He has worked as an internationally successful performance artist. He presented performances in this country, the UK, the rest of Europe, and Australia. He was inducted as an Honorary Associate of the British National Review of Live Art in 1996.He has published literally hundreds of articles for Art News, Art Monthly, Artscribe (where he was a contributing editor), Performance Magazine, Total Theatre, Artinfo (where he was a senior editor) and many, many other magazines, books, catalogs, and newspapers around the world.Since about 2010 he was worked exclusively as a painter and collagist, and since 2020 he has lived happily in Katonah with his wife and dogs.
