“Reiteration”

Chroma Fine Art Gallery introduces its newest exhibition, Reiteration., which is on view through December 3. This show features sculptures by June Ahrens, digital art by Carol Bouyoucos, and paintings by Rachel White. Its title comes from the repeating hues that reverberate around the space, “Two colors echo all around the room – plum and fuchsia,” explains curator Rita Baunok. “The colorful harmony is a unifying feature of the exhibition.”

Hanging gracefully from Chroma’s walls are a selection of June Ahrens Forever Flowers. The elegant tangles of wire and cord blossoms, vines, and knots are symbols of hope and remembrance. Art critic Barbara O’Brien described Ahrens’ decades-long artistic practice as a “meditation on the relationship between art and life.” One where she uses the studio as “a bridge to the wider world.” Throughout her career Ahrens has received several distinguished awards, and exhibited extensively – including recent solo shows at The Housatonic Museum of Art and The UConn Stamford Art Gallery.

Carol Bouyoucos’ digital art explores the intersection of art and technology. She collaborates with Artificial Intelligence to create detailed digital environments of a fleeting nature. Her work concerns contradictions of conscious acts, appropriation in art, and the role that A.I. plays in her artmaking. “My practice has always been shaped by technology, and I embrace the aesthetic tension that digital materiality imposes on the work.” Her creations are lush environments onto themselves, and they play with scale, nature, artifice, as well as the traditional genres of still life and landscape painting.

Rachel White is showing a vibrant new series of abstract paintings inspired by “fleeting infatuations with color combinations” that mirror her moods. She describes her process “unfolding within a theatre of strokes: elegant variegations, rivalry, and interference. Thin, gauze-like swaths and large jagged sheets, give way to new tints and shades. Together they organize on the linen forming a dimensional, chromatic space.” White has a background in advertising for luxury cosmetics, and in addition to currently pursuing her studio-based practice, she is an Adjunct Professor of Fine Arts in the College of the Arts, at the University of Florida, Gainesville.
